Animal Merge

Animal Merge

The Animal Merge function is used to merge (combine) the history for one animal with the history of a second animal. The primary intention of this function is to combine two duplicate animals on the Animal Database into one single animal record.

To access the Animal Merge function, select SYSTEM, then ANIMAL MERGE from the main menu. Note that this function may be inaccessible from the menu if your User Administration rights do not allow the Animal Merge function.

In the sample above, "Animal A" is the redundant/duplicate animal record of "Animal B". In other words, the same animal is on the Animal Database twice. In this example, we want to combine (merge) the history of Animal A so that the history will be linked to Animal B.

When the 'Do Merge' button is clicked, the historical records will be merged from Animal A to Animal B. Upon completion, the Animal A record will still exist on the Animal Database. However any history that previously existed will be gone as it would have been moved to Animal B.

In most cases, Animal A should be deleted from the Animal Database after the merge is complete. This step is necessary to completely delete the duplicate from the database and to avoid the possibility of new events becoming connected to Animal A.
