What is needed to have a pet license?

For a pet license to exist, there are four primary record types required:

  1. A pet owner (a person record on the Person database).
  2. An animal owned by the pet owner (an animal on the Animal database).
  3. A license record.
  4. A current vaccination record connected to the license record. This is typically a verification of the owner possessing a current Rabies Vaccination Certificate from a registered veterinarian.

Pet Owner

The pet owner will be a known person on the Person Database. To access a pet owner, select the 'Person Database' under any of the main menu selections. In this example, the search specified last name DOE, first name JANE. Notice that one person record was found and is displayed in the search results. Jane's account number is 27409, and Jane's Animals Owned shows her to be the owner of five animals.

An animal owned

To access a person's animals, select the Animals Owned tab and the list of the citizen's owned pets will be displayed. The animals listed are animals on the Animal Database. To access any of the animals in the list, double-click the animal to open the Animal View.

Tip: Use the New Animal button to add a new animal to the animal database. The newly created animal will automatically link the person (Jane Doe in our example) as the current owner. This would be typical if a pet license was for a pet that Jane owns, but the pet had not been previously added to the database.

Double-clicking the animal (Terry in our example) will open the Animal View where the various records from the Animal Identification module can be accessed. Since we are discussing pet licensing, notice the License expired label on the pet's license button. This tells us that pet has had a previous license record, however the license is expired.

A license and vaccination record

Clicking the License expired button will open the most recent license record posted for the pet.

Bringing it all together on the License View

The License View highlights how the various data records come together, and the various eligibility requirements are captured (proof of vaccination, proof of sterilization, proof of microchip).
