Pet licensing overview
The next few topics will cover animal licensing in Shelter Pro. To set a framework for this discussion, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Terminology is customizable
The default terminology being used is 'license'. However, in the industry there are other common terms that are synonymous with the term 'license'. Shelter Pro has 'adaptive terminology'. This means that the terminology 'license' may not be what you see in your Shelter Pro environment. This is due to the fact that the label 'license' can be replaced via a customization setting with another label.
Other common labels for the term 'License' include, but are not limited to:
1. Registration
2. Rabies Tag
3. Dog Tag
License Types are customizable
The discussion for pet licensing will be based on having two primary license types of 1-YEAR and 3-YEAR, and a non calendar year setup. However, there are other common practices, and Shelter Pro can be 'customized' to handle these other scenarios. These include, but are not limited to:
Other common types of pet licenses include, but are not limited to:
1. 2-YEAR licensing duration;
2. Calendar year duration where all licenses are on a twelve month cycle;
3. LIFETIME licensing duration.
Species which are licensed
The discussion will be licensing of DOG and CAT species. However, it is possible to setup license administration to handle other less common species such as ferrets, etc.
Current rabies vaccination is required
The discussion will assume that a pet must have a current rabies vaccination to be eligible for a license. For most license administrators, this is common practice. However, it is possible to set a customize switch that will not enforce this limitation, and a pet's rabies vaccination status would not be necessary for the owner to be eligible to license the pet.
License Expiration Dates
The discussion will assume that a license expiration date will not be allowed to exceed an associated rabies vaccination expiration date. For most license administrators, this is common practice. However, it is possible to set a customize switch that will not enforce this limitation, and a license expiration date could exceed the pet's rabies vaccination expiration date.
Sterilization status
The discussion will assume that an owner is eligible to license their pet if it is not sterilized, but there is a discounted license fee for sterilized pets. For most license administrators, this is common practice. However, it is possible to setup Shelter Pro so that a pet being sterilized is a requirement for the owner to be eligible for a license.
Microchip status
The discussion will assume that an owner is eligible to license their pet if it does not have a microchip. However, it is possible to setup Shelter Pro so that a pet having a microchip is a requirement for the owner to be eligible for a license.
